Started out as a shortwave listener (SWL) back in 1966 (right after radio was invented), and the interest just grew from there.

My dad was a ham radio operator beginning in the 1960’s. He influenced me to get my novice license in 1974 at age 13. Life happened and I went away from the hobby. Now that I’m retired I have time to play radio again!

My dad was in communications for the Air Force starting in 1949 and I was introduced to MARS and phone patches through him when we would reach out to the grandparents in Florida from our home shack on Guam, and he taught me Morse when I was seven.

After he passed I never did anything with the hobby until 2006 when I got active with my local ARES group in Montgomery County TX. When I moved to AZ in 2009 I dropped the hobby again but got back into it in Sept of 2025 after I had retired.

I just celebrated 13 months back in the hobby with 5,000+ QSOs, 2,000+ POTA parks, and 48 DX entities. All SSB. 20 - 100 watts. EFHW and KJ6ER PERformer vertical.
