Hi There, N7ZS here. I tried the search but I obviously didn’t use the correct words… like location? I have recently started to use the WRL log tool for my POTA. I download into the POTA site just fine, but when I import into QRZ, the default QRZ location populates the location city and county… the state and grid square come from the Park data. I assume that I can somehow set up the locations in the WRL log book, but I haven’t seen how yet. My biggest problem is that I have a couple hundred logs in QRZ that need to be fixed…

Ideas, suggestions?

I appreciate your help, 73

Tony N7ZS.

@N7ZS Hey Tony Good Morning,

So to set your location in WRL you just goto your profile, then to ‘my operating locations’ and set a saved location. Then you can assign on of those locations as your ‘default saved locations’, You can also set this inside your logbook via logbook settings (the gear icon). When you are doing a POTA and you create your logbook and set the park number we are setting the location of that logbook to the location of the park, because thats where you are operating from.

Here is a screen recording explaining all of this and how to properly do this:

I hope this helps!

Hi Brad,

Thanks so much for all the extra effort you went through to send me the video blow by blow. Very useful. It unfortunately did not answer the problem that I have been facing. The custom location based on the park does not populate a city/county, nor does it give the option to put that in. Maybe I missed something?? So, when I import the adi file the default city in my qrz is used to populate the city field. The final QRZ log shows the correct grid but doesn’t show the correct city or county and the log is skewed. Hard to be used for accurate confirmations.

As I use QRZ while running around the country NV, MT, or RV, I often change the city, grid, state for the present location. I guess I could still do this before importing the adi file, but it sure would be handy to have the ability to populate the city/local in the custom location when I select a park in WRL.

Most recently I did a 300+ mile whirl wind tour through some of remote Nevada activating 6 unactivated parks. If I have to set a location in QRZ for each location before importing, it would almost be easier just to use QRZ to log…??

I am really enjoying the WRL product and want it to eventually, be my main logger.

Thanks, 73
Tony

@N7ZS Hey Tony,

So this is all on the QRZ side, it doesn’t matter what the ADIF data has in it if your location is set incorrectly in QRZ as (you are correct) they are using your default city you have set in your QRZ account instead. This is just how their system works when importing the adif or importing QSO’s via their API. You have to update your location in your QRZ account first THEN import the adif for that location. VERY old school. I’m not aware of a way around this unfortunately. The only thing i use QRZ for is confirmations, also one thing to note is they dont look at the location for confirmations they only look if the date, time (within a window of time +/- 30 mins i believe), band and mode (and maybe freq) is matching.

It is all on the qrz side if there isn’t location info in the adif… is there a way to populate a city/county in the pota park location screen? Is this on the order of a requested feature and not a fix? If the adif had that data it would overwrite any default in qrz.

Someone mentioned you in a post.

@N7ZS Hey Tony,

So the QTH, State, Grid, Country, DXCC ID, etc is all getting added to the adif already. The only thing that isn’t is the city. I’m sure we can add the city in there but since its not apart of what is needed or used in a pota submission i’m not the best way to handle it, also i’m not sure that shouldn’t have any affect on the import on the QRZ side either though.

Here is a screen recording showing exactly what i mean:

Just so i’m following, what data exactly are you waning in the adif that isn’t there?

‘MY\_CITY’ and ‘MY\_CNTY’
(those are from the adif standard)

Hey Brad,

You are spot on City and County if possible. If I could select/populate those when I setup a Pota location and use that for the custom address… I would be golden.. As you mentioned all the rest is perfect…
