Hello fellow Hams,
Some of you may have known me as KF8EYE, which is now my former callsign that the FCC first issued me back in September. On June 8th, 2026, the FCC processed my vanity call application. “Now the waiting process starts,” I thought to myself the very moment I saw they removed the $35 fee from my bank account.
Enough with the nonsense: “What call did you apply for, Caleb?”
The title of this post already answers that question, but yes, I applied for the vanity callsign K8LEB. I had debated the idea of actually getting a vanity call, finally bit the bullet, and hit that apply button in the ULS manager.
I knew if I got a vanity call, I wanted it to include these three things:
- Distinctive characters
- Fewer letters
- More personalization
So with that being said, this morning I saw the FCC approved me for the vanity call K8LEB. I’ve been on the air for a while this evening calling CQ from a remote station over the internet with a station in IL. Thanks to all who made contact with me and my new call.
My name is Caleb, which is why I went with K8LEB.
The last thing I want to say about my old call is that someone always asked me if I was an eye doctor since my old call was KF8EYE. If any of you know any eye doctors, get them interested in ham radio, and in 2 years they can have my former callsign.
