# Updating through the app

Include a menu option to check for updates, and/or have the app automatically check for updates on startup. That would save manually downloading installers that we have to delete later on.

@W0PCD Are you talking about the web app, mobile app or the desktop app? The desktop app currently has this and when a new release is released it will prompt you to update. The web app doesn’t need this and the mobile app we have this as well but we only force the update when its a drastic db update or something. We tend to not do the force updates anymore as it can cause issues if a user is in the middle of a pota activation or something.

Hi there,
I’m talking about the desktop app. I didn’t realize that it would prompt you to update/upgrade when a new version is released. So far, I’ve only upgraded by downloading the new version and installing it manually. Most projects don’t put that feature in right away on their desktop apps.

@W0PCD Yeah its there, it’ll be a popup in the bottom left of the app when a new app is released. 😉
