# What is a band plan?

For some reason I am not understanding what a band plan is and how to use it. Can anyone explain it to me?

From my understanding a band plan is a list of frequencies segmented into “bands” based on the wavelength of that band. For example the 2 meter band is 144 mhz to 148 mhz. A band plan will also tell you the allowed modes such as FM, SSB, rtty, etc. as well as the allowed bands and modes for each class of license. I hope that helped as I am pretty new to ham radio so if there’s something that I missed please comment because I am still learning.
