I joined my local Amateur Radio Club at the age of 12 having been interested in radio communications for many years. I was first licensed in 1986 and started work on my Morse Test which I successfully passed at 12WPM in January 1987. I run the International Police Association UK Amateur Radio Club.

My main interest has always been HF operation (CW, SSB & FT8), contesting and portable operation from various parts of the globe. My main station consists of a FTdx101MP, Acom 1000 amplifier and the Yaesu M-100 microphone.

QTH is located 200 feet above sea level in the hills behind the seaside town of Largs on the west coast of Scotland. It provides a good takeoff in most directions. My HF antennas are a Butternut HF9V, a multiband HF off-centre fed dipole and two Hustler 6BTV antennas.

Although I mainly operate HF I do have 2mtrs and 70cm’s with both analogue and DMR.

I QSL 100% via the bureau. I am also available on LOTW and EQSL. I am a member of the RSGB, ARRL, SKCC #3843 and the International Police Association Radio Club.

I was awarded the British Empire Medal by Her Majesty The Queen in June 2022.
