My name is Duane “Dee” Tyler, and I was born and raised in East Brooklyn, NY, until my father joined the army when I was 8 yrs old. We traveled to Ft. Hood, TX, Fort Richardson, AK, and finally ended up at Ft. Meade Maryland. Severn and Glen Burnie Maryland are the other two places that I resided before joining the army myself at the age of 19 in late 1987. I I completed basic training at Ft. Jackson, SC and my advanced training at Ft. Gordon (Eisenhower), GA. I was granted the Military Occupational Skill (MOS) of Special Electronic Devices Repairer (94F) in August of 1988. The skill was redesignated as Computer/Detection Systems Repairer in 2004 as there had been major changes in the skill due to the incorporation of computer systems. My assignments were Ft. Drum, NY in 1988-90, Camp Casey, Korea, 1990-91, Ft. Bragg (Liberty), 1991-93, Schofield, Barracks, HI, 1993-96, Ft. Liberty 1996-98, Schofield Barracks, HI, 1998-01, Ft. Gordon, GA 2001-03 where I was assigned as a Computer/Detection Repairer Instructor. During my tour at Ft. Wainwright, AK from 2003-07, I deployed to Mosul, Iraq for 16 months. In January of 2007 I returned to Ft. Gordon where I retired as a Computer/Detection Repairer Instructor in 2010 after 22 years of service. Augusta (Hephzibah), GA is now where I homestead, and I have been married for 36 yrs and my YL is from Washington D.C. She is also a army veteran. I still claim the Baltimore area as home even though I am a “Jawgia” resident now . Due to my love for electronic repair of communications equipment I became a Ham Operator circa 1993 while stationed in Hawaii. I was awarded the Tech Plus callsign, WH6PC. I was an active operator until 2013 and then I regained interest in the hobby again in August 2024 when I was awarded the callsign of KQ4VED.
My rig is a Yaesu FT-991A with a Hustler 5BTV antenna system on a 20 ft. mast with NO RADIALS. I aso use a Diamond 2/70 antenna on the same rig. I look forward to experimenting with new and different modes of operation in this ever-changing world of communications. I am also looking forward to networking and meeting new friends in the hobby.
