KY4CQ

Hey there! I’m Brady, and I’m glad you stopped by. Originally from Knoxville, TN, I’m now living in Alabama and have been passionate about ham radio since 2008. I started as a young technician in high school and quickly worked my way up, becoming a general licensee a year later and eventually upgrading to amateur extra in 2020.

After taking a break from the hobby due to work and life, I reignited my love for radio when I discovered POTA (Parks on the Air). POTA allowed me to operate in quieter environments and enjoy nature at the same time. My time with SSB POTA led me to try CW, and I’ve been hooked ever since. CW is now my primary mode, and I’m often active on the CW portions of the 20 and 15 meters. As an active member of the Straight Key Century Club, you might catch me calling CQ with my Begali Spark straight key.

Currently, I serve as a Warrant Officer in the Georgia Army National Guard, where I’m undergoing rotary wing flight training, and I also work as a paramedic. When I’m not flying or working, I enjoy portable and QRP operations, and you can often find me doing QRP POTA activations. My APRS callsign is KY4CQ-9, and I’m frequently on 146.520 while mobile. I’m also an FAA-licensed private pilot, having soloed on my 16th birthday.

Outside of ham radio, I love spending time outdoors, whether hiking, fishing, or riding my Harley Street Glide. I’m happily married to my amazing wife, Karoline (N4KHF), and although she hasn’t used her callsign yet, we love traveling together and aim to visit at least one new country every year.

I’ve got a few ham radio goals lined up: increasing my CW speed, doing a POTA activation on every continent, achieving the WAS award, and getting into SOTA. Recently, I’ve been focusing on creating a lightweight, modular portable kit for my travels.

Thanks for checking out my page, and I hope to hear you on the air soon. 73!
