Active Areas in Texas

Howdy. I’m new to Ham Radio and take my test on June 9th. I have heard some talk on the air on the scheduled net meetings for two local Ham clubs but not much else. Is the Austin area active? If not, what are the most active areas in Texas?

You might want to search for clubs on the ARRL website or even Google, for Austin clubs, and then check out their websites and social media pages. That should give you a pretty good idea which ones are active in various activities. Monitor those club’s repeaters, too, because if they are active, their repeaters will be busy if they are providing communications help, running nets, storm watching, etc.

I joined the local club near Austin. Went to a meeting and paid my dues. Attended twice more, but nobody was there. Never heard from them. Very disappointing. I was a member of DVRA (in NJ) and that club was a blast. Lots of activity and lots of fun.

I’d suggest the checking out the following and ask them for local activities: *AARC Elmer Net — Weekly on Saturday 7:00pm, 146.940 MHz (-) 107.2 Hz

  • AARC 10-meter Net — Weekly on Sunday 3:00pm, 28.410 MHz USB
  • New Hams Net – Monday 8pm, 146.640 (-) 162.2 tone
