Are they going to update the app to work more like the website? As far as maps and other things?

Yes, absolutely!
We will be releasing upgraded maps on the mobile app, as soon as we finish a few database upgrades on the web in early september.
Then we will also be adding analytics, the contest page and other functionalities on the app too.
