A Highlight for European Hams
For European Hams the IARU Region 1 SSB Field Day is one of the highlights of the year (Not that popular as the ARRL Field Day for US hams but still an important contest for European hams).
Hosted by the national amateur radio associations
What makes this contest special is that it is not organised by IARU R1 itself, but by the individual national amateur radio associations in Europe. This means that although the contest takes place at the same time, all participating countries have their own contest rules, which may differ slightly, and compile their own rankings.
I have already mentioned this briefly in this forum in other thread:
Confusing contest name
Even though the contest is called IARU R1 SSB Field Day, it is only offered in about a dozen European national amateur radio associations. In particular, since the IARU R1 VHF Contest takes place at the same weekend, certain national associations have only included the latter in their contest calendar.
Registration needed
IARU R1 SSB Field Day needs in most participating countries a pre-contest registration:
-
Hams from countries that offer the IARU R1 Field Day themselves, take part in their country’s Field Day (see list below).
-
All other hams I recommend to participate at the Germany’s Field Day. This has a separate ranking list for foreign participants and provide the contest rules also in English language.
