What does "5NN TU" mean?

I am just starting to scratch the surface with learning CW. In a number of posts and videos I’ve seen, people have referenced “5NN TU”. Usually in a slightly derogatory manner, along the lines of “get proficient at CW so you can do better than 5NN TU.”

From context, I’m guessing it’s something easy to key to “complete” a contact. But what exactly does it mean? Is it shorthand for something?

Thanks and 73

Hello Mike :wave:t3:

Hello, this is used in the contests, instead of sending 599 you send 5nn. TU means thank you. Not that it is derogatory, it is to make the QSO faster
