What you think for this antenna, please?

I am waiting for FT-710. I plan to buy this antenna. Any opinions, please?

Hi Alan,

I’ve never had that specific vertical antenna, but I’ve had others like Cushcraft, GAP, homemade, etc. That vertical should work well for you up to about 40M. While it claims to work up to 160M, that’s not entirely accurate. For a vertical to perform well on 60M, 80M, and 160M (and even 40M), it needs a good radial system and should be much larger than this one. I see that the antenna is 6.3 meters long, which is about 20 feet high. Just my opinion.

Agreed Howdy KK7REZ Matt in Idaho lots of company’s say that this antenna can do 1.8 through 50MHz but the truth is its more like 1.8-20m which is a lot of good bands but i would check out maybe a dipole antenna more bands less money need a bigger area and ive made a couple for under $50 us dollars and its super fun to tell people all over the us that im operating 5w qrp with a home brew dipole antenna on a 15ft mass and i usually get a 5-5 /5-8 into California mane Arkansas Texas Virginia etc just another thought and you don’t have to be Einstein to make one lol 73’s KK7REZ Matt

Thank you W3PC & KK7REZ for your answers. I am aware that this is compromise. Also, I know that dipole will be better, but I am limited with space. I can erect antenna only in roof on my 12 floor building, so I don’t have space for multiband dipole. I have to check, maybe I can use Chameleon LEFS 4010 EFHW 40-10m 20 m length EFHW.

Second, there are financial limits, I am back to hobby after 30+ years, so I have to buy all starting equipment.

One of the Cushcraft antennas I had worked very well from 10M to 40M. About a month ago, there was one listed on https://swap.qth.com/ for a good price. If you need anything else, we’re here to help. 73!

I just recently had bought the PALOMAR End Fed OCF antenna BULLET-4006-500 for 40-6 meter bands (only 55 feet, 500 Watts). It works good enough outside and in an attic, too.

Hi Vladimir,

Did you install it in the attic?

Hi Alfredo,
Yes, finally, last Saturday I installed this antenna in my attic looks liked on the shape of number “9” to use all 55 feet length of wire. A coax of 75 feet was connected to the UNUN 4:1 and it went to through the attic to my office room. So far, 20, 17, 15, 12, 10 meters has worked an average quality but 80 and 40 meters have to much noise-probably, need to provide some adjusting…
You maybe give me an advice.

Hi Vladimir,

One question: Is that your only option for placing an antenna on your house? Could you install a vertical or a mast to support a dipole instead? If the attic is your only option, I recommend reading this link: Pros and Cons of HF Attic Antennas. If space is tight for 40M and 80M, it might be best to optimize for 10M–20M and skip 40M & 80M. Another option for 40M could be a sloper, or a sloper with traps to also cover 80M. You might also consider a HOA flagpole antenna.
