Best SWR antenna tester

Hi! Can someone give me some advice for a good (or the best) SWR tester for both CB and Ham? Thanks!

Hi @stmichaud

I have a friend who has the Yaesu ATAS-120A and it works well (40, 20, 15, 10, 6, 2 meters and 70cm)

But I don’t know if it works on 11M.

Have Rig Expert stick 500 that I picked up recently. Still figuring it out but I did notice it covers the cb band as well as HAM bands.

I was wrong I’m sorry. :person_facepalming:t4:

I have a Rig Expert AA-54 and it works fine from 6M to 160M (including 11M)

RigExpert AA-35 covers 0.06-35 MHz which includes the 11M band.
Runs around $230 online.

NanoVNAs are good and cheaper :slightly_smiling_face:

You get what you pay for. Cheaper isn’t always better. Too many complaints about some nano’s, not so with RegExperts.

Right now the best is RigExpert. I have RigExpert, Nano and MFJ. For me, Nano for the price is better than the MFJ.

The FT991A plus the ATAS-120A makes setting up HF easy. I have to upgrade to transmit, but I’ve been practicing writing down callsigns when listening.

Hi @WX4DAN

Like I said, I have a friend who has the Yaesu ATAS-120A antenna and it works great. Once I was at my house in Puerto Rico and he worked a Mongolian station on 30M on CW (Prefix JT).

You still don’t have a license?

Hi Alfredo,

I’ve had my technicians license since 1996 and use it on the local repeaters and to chase tornadoes occasionally. Now that I’m retiring, I am going to dive headfirst to HF. I’ve been having a lot of fun listening.

With the Technician license you can transmit on 10M. If you want to work a station in Puerto Rico, let me know and we will schedule

I just got one of those today. It made adjusting my mjf-1661 screwdriver antenna a snap. Can’t wait to see what else it can do!
