Icom 7300 - SWR Meter

I recently purchased my first HF rig, a Icom IC-7300. I do not have an external antenna analyzer nor SWR meter. I am a little confused on how to correctly and safely use the built-in SWR meter on the IC-7300.

I am aware that you need to drop the power down to roughly 10w. But what mode do I need to have the radio in to use the SWR meter and do I need to have the tuner off?

I generally am focused on voice on 20m and 40m. I have a JPC-12 antenna that I am using.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ross,

I can’t advise you on the specific operations of the 7300, but I would urge you to obtain a good analyzer such as the Rig Expert line. As you progress in your Ham hobby you’ll have many opportunities to use it again and again as you try new antennas.
