I also made some simple modifications to the ground spike so the counterpoise will detach rather than be damaged if someone trips on it, as happens when you’re deployed at parks, campsites, etc. The pigtail is #16 silicone jacketed wire which is extremely flexible. The zip ties act as a strain relief for the ring terminal.

As you can see I used anderson connectors as the safety disconnect. I crimped and soldered them, and filled the ends of the plugs with hot glue. The connectors are NOT coming off.
