DMR or DStar for Orlando Repeaters

I am looking for a good handheld to take out and about with me. Right now I have a analog (FM Only) but want to expand to either a DStar or DMR handheld. I live just south of Orlando in the WDW area so my options are between Orlando and Kissimmee for repeaters. I have looked on Repeater Book, Radio Reference, and the OARC website and I see a lot of variation between DStar and DMR. Since I am not having much luck finding a handheld that can do both DStar and DMR, was hoping folks here could tell me which mode is better for my area? When I say better, just mean more active. I am trying to refrain from being on the WDW repeater since I read somewhere that its designed for their emergency service so I don’t think they will take too kindly to a random person transmitting on it. I also feel like I wouldn’t get much of a response.

Unfortunately there are no handhelds that do DMR and DSTAR in one device. You would need to choose one or the other for now.

In this case, since they are about equal, you can either ask a local club what they recommend, or just go ahead and purchase a radio and you can always get a second one later!

More than likely, you might end up with 2-3 handhelds for D-star / DMR
