Do you need to join a group or fill out any registration to join in dx contesting?
No! Just jump into a contest when you are ready. The biggest thing besides the on-air participation is to submit your logs. This allows that community of contesters to see how you did, and helps in scoring for others.

Including the Exchange as well as the Start Stop times

Getting involved in LOTW is a bit of work. When I did it I needed to get a card in the mail and then set up another code online. Don’t know if that’s still the process.
It sure is the same ! I am waiting for my card .
