Some of us are uncomfortable leaving credit card details on websites, especially when it doesn’t have to be there (e.g. auto-renew is turned off). Please implement a way to do this. Thanks!
If you wish to delete your saved payment method, you can follow these steps:
- Go the the Manage Subscription page
- Click “Manage Subscription”
- Make sure your subscription is cancelled / not set to renew.
- Select your Payment Method and click delete, as pictured here.
Note: it will only allow you to delete you payment method if you have cancelled the membership and turned off auto-renew, so that there is no pending upcoming payment.
Credit cards for default payments are stored safely and securely using Stripe, the most well-known and secure company for payments. This is arguably the most secure safe and secure payment provider available today.
Remember, if you turn off the auto-renew functionality, you need to remember to reactivate it before the expiration, or your membership will revert to free and you’ll lose any membership benefits.
Thank you. I actually found it and it worked fine. The actual issue was that it said canceling would only give me the “free” functionality til my subscription expired. It later updated to “basic” functionality as expected. I wanted to delete this feedback comment but couldn’t find a way to do it. (update: comment delete/edit functionality didn’t appear last night but I see it this morning)
Hi @KO6BLI don’t worry, actually your question helped us create a great guide so now others can learn how to do it as well!
It sounds like there might be a small bug with the wording there and how turning off auto-renew works - we’ll take a look at this!
Thank you ![]()
It seemed like it just took a few minutes) for the “FREE” verbiage to update, also maybe my new account status wasn’t fully recognized yet. No biggie. Turning off auto renew is one of the first things I check when signing up for a new service. Hopefully there will be an email notification before the expiration.
i second this motion. not being able to have the choice of you not keeping my credit card on file is a security issue. If i want to reup I should be able to enter a credit for 1 moment in time & get it off you files & who every else is holding my number, without cancelling the subscription. How about thinking about your customer’s valid concerns… Recent security incidents involving Stripe primarily stem from merchant-side vulnerabilities rather than breaches of Stripe’s own infrastructure. Web skimming campaigns exploiting a deprecated Stripe API (/v1/sources) have compromised approximately 49 merchant sites since August 2024, allowing attackers to validate and steal credit card data.
API key leaks remain a critical risk, with studies revealing thousands of exposed Stripe credentials across web pages, often due to developers hardcoding keys in frontend JavaScript or public repositories. These leaks enable attackers to access Personally Identifiable Information (PII), manipulate prices, issue fraudulent refunds, or execute unauthorized wire transfers.
Additionally, account takeover attacks have resulted in significant financial losses (e.g., €700k and $41k incidents) where attackers used stolen API keys to create fake Express accounts and drain merchant balances via instant payouts. Stripe’s platform itself has not been breached; the responsibility for securing API keys and implementing restrictions falls on the merchants.
@KD9TKP There are instructions above on how to remove that data.
Thanks & 73
