Hi everyone - I’m new to the hobby (in fact, this is my first post!). I’m still studying for my Technician’s license.
One question I haven’t figured out yet is - let’s say I want to eventually put a base station together at home with an antenna on my roof. I do not have any experience installing things on a roof, or running electrical/coax lines through a house. Are there expert installers we can hire for this work? If so, any suggestions on how to find them? Will TV antenna installers also do HAM radio antennas?
Installing a mast with a wire antenna is easy and there is no danger, but installing a tower, larger antennas, etc. I recommend that you do not do it alone. I recommend that you look for a Club near your area. They will help you and you will also gain more knowledge with them. If you want, tell me where you live and I can help you find a club near your area
Hi @WP3C - thanks for your response! What about running a coaxial cable through the exterior into the interior of the house? And grounding the antenna properly?
You must look for how that coaxial is going to enter your house, most of the time it is entered using a corner of the window. In my case, when I built my house I put some PVC pipes in the concrete and my coaxials enter through there. You should also place a copper rod to ground the radio, etc.
