How to hire someone to install an antenna?

Hi everyone - I’m new to the hobby (in fact, this is my first post!). I’m still studying for my Technician’s license.

One question I haven’t figured out yet is - let’s say I want to eventually put a base station together at home with an antenna on my roof. I do not have any experience installing things on a roof, or running electrical/coax lines through a house. Are there expert installers we can hire for this work? If so, any suggestions on how to find them? Will TV antenna installers also do HAM radio antennas?

Hi @ANVBARD :wave:t3:

Installing a mast with a wire antenna is easy and there is no danger, but installing a tower, larger antennas, etc. I recommend that you do not do it alone. I recommend that you look for a Club near your area. They will help you and you will also gain more knowledge with them. If you want, tell me where you live and I can help you find a club near your area :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @WP3C - thanks for your response! What about running a coaxial cable through the exterior into the interior of the house? And grounding the antenna properly?

I’m in Glendale, CA. Just past my technicians.

Hello @ANVBARD

You must look for how that coaxial is going to enter your house, most of the time it is entered using a corner of the window. In my case, when I built my house I put some PVC pipes in the concrete and my coaxials enter through there. You should also place a copper rod to ground the radio, etc.
