I was thinking it would be awesome if WRL could host native, WRL-driven “Ham Radio Battles.”
Think of them like short, friendly mini-contests right here on the platform to get more operators on the air. To keep things fair and highly competitive, we could separate them out completely so nobody is mismatched:
• By Mode: Dedicated battles for FT8, CW, and SSB (since mixing them wouldn’t be a fair fight!).
• By Band: Specific challenges (like a 20M weekend sprint or a 40M night battle).
How it could work:
• Frequency: We could run these as weekly sprints or monthly endurance challenges.
• Bragging Rights: Winners get 1st place on a leaderboard and a digital trophy displayed directly on their WRL profile to show off their achievements.
• Bonus Idea: Maybe we could add a “Club vs. Club” or “Elmer & Novice” duo category down the road to boost Elmering and community engagement.
It would be a great way to gamify radio a little bit, add some friendly rivalry, and give everyone a fun reason to spin the dial.
