Receiving your callsign

How long does it usually take to get a callsign from the FCC after completing the technician license exam?

I got it within a few days.

Edit: have you passed your exam?

Alright, thank you!

I haven’t passed my exam yet, I’m hoping to take my exam this week if I have time.

I took my exam on a Friday morning AK time and woke up the next morning, Saturday, with a callsign.

That’s wonderful! I’m hoping I receive mine that fast after passing the test.

Where in West Virginia are you?

I used the Anchorage VEC for my testing, and they are quick to submit results.

Good Luck!

This what I used for my Technician license:

Something that was confusing for me:

How to see if you have a license (they send you an E-Mail, but this works great if you want something else to obsessively check every 5 minutes) (which I totally didn’t do)

Greetings. I took my Technician exam and passed this past Sunday, 7SEP2025. I had my callsign this morning on Tuesday, 9SEP2025.

How quick you get your call sign is dependent on a number of factors. One is how quickly your VEC uploads your application to the FCC. As long as the FCC processing is working properly the documents will batch hourly. Once batched the FCC will put your file into payment request. If you pay promptly before the EOD processing cutoff then your call sign will be processed and available for you the next business morning.

I took my technicians exam on Saturday, the VECs uploaded my paperwork yesterday and I received my callsign this morning. Once your application is submitted I highly recommend paying the $35 fee as soon as possible, once they receive that payment you should get your callsign the very next day.

The FCC is surprisingly quick and efficient when it comes come to granting licenses.

I received my GMRS callsign in less than 24 hours and my technician callsign in just over 24 hours.

The hardest part of the entire process is trying to navigate the website. It took less time to study for the test than it did to figure out how to pay the $35 fee.
