For those wondering about the Amateur Extra changes, I thought I would give a bit of a detailed update today. We’ve completed the shooting on the new course, and it’s on track to publish on May 1.
The new Amateur Extra course will be 30 lessons of about 5-7 minutes each. Each lesson will cover around 20 questions. This allows us to keep each lesson to 1-2 topics. That’s 3 more than the current course. It will still be available on-line and the app, as well as Audible and in book form.
If you already subscribe to the Amateur Extra video course, you’ll get access to the new course on May 1. “So which one do I use Jim?” If you are going to take your exam June 30 or EARLIER, use the current course. If you are taking your exam July 1 or after, you’ll want to take the new course that covers the 2024-2028 question pool.
I estimate about 15-20% of the questions in the pool have changed. Some are small rewrites, but the majority are a shift away from tube-related topics and toward digital topics.
The team has hundreds of hours into these changes, rebuilding the course from the ground up. All new videos, graphics and animations. I really like the way this flows and I think (dare I say it), it will make things easier to understand.
So, watch for the new course in about 10 days! Feel free to ask questions below!

Thanks for the update! I may wait and take the test after the new pool takes effect, since it’s sounds like the material may be more relevant to current technology. Not sure yet, though.

There might be a little of that. Ultimately your call.
