A Lot of Material

I found the Technician and General exams to be fairly easy. Passed them on the first attempt. However, I find the Amateur Extra Class far more challenging. There is a lot of material in this study course. Some I remember from many years ago and a lot that is new. I’m hoping to be ready for the exam by this month’s meeting.

I understand what you mean! Ham Radio Prep helped me pass my General earlier this year, and I want to upgrade to Extra, but I haven’t taken enough time to study yet. I have the Ham Radio Prep course purchased, so, when I do have time I can use it.

I think it helps if you think of it as “a deeper dive into the same material.” It’s more about circuits, more about antennas, more about rules… etc. That might make it a little less intimidating. Good luck! - Jim N4BFR

I totally get that, thanks for chiming in! And thanks for teaching me everything I needed to know to pass my General, @N4BFR! I got it earlier this year!

Oh, definitely a deeper dive. Intimidating, no. It’s been a refresher in some areas and new, interesting material in other areas. I have enjoyed this course and once I pass the Extra exam I have an eye on the HF Masterclass course.

It’s been 10+ years since I passed my Tech and General, Getting back into the study mode I just decided to take the study guides at HamRadioPrep for the Tech and General first then start on the Extra. I’ll keep you posted

They way they give you the context of what your learning, but also give you the actual answers highlighted in blue, helps a lot.

I just posted about the new version of the course coming on 5/1. Check that out before you get started. It will help you understand which version to work on.
