Passing Exams

Has everyone here used Ham Radio Prep to get their Extra class license?

I cant speak for everyone but I did. I read through each section and then took the section test until i got eveything correct. Then took and retook the practice test until i was consistently scoring in the 90% range. Passed the first time out.

I can also recommend the Ham Radio Prep for your Extra, I used it mainly at night studying and watching the videos and practice tests. When I was testing in the 90% range I decided to try taking the test, I thought I was still about 2wks away from feeling fully ready but passed with a 46/50. So I was glad to have met my personal goal of Extra within 6 months of getting my Tech/General. Now enjoying being an Extra and VE with 2 of my clubs. I find that helping answer new Technicians questions one of the more fulfilling aspects of helping bring up the latest additions the the ham community.

Thank you, very uplifting to read your comments, I study off and on each day for about three hours, I look at it like it’s a game !

Hey @dadavis13! I’m pretty new to the ham space, and have only been license for ~3 months now. I truly don’t believe I would have been able to pass my exam if it wasn’t for Ham Radio Prep. Here is a VERY long review of my experience so far:

About 6 months prior to getting my license, I was weighing the thought of studying for my license, and then ended up dropping the idea when I just couldn’t grasp the material on other study sites for free. I tried the flash cards, YouTube videos, and more, but just ended up giving up.

Then fast forward to 3 months ago. My dad had mentioned to me that he wanted to get his license, and that we should get our licenses together. That’s when I found Ham Radio Prep. Decided to go all in, get the All Access Pass, and used it to pass both my Technician, and my General exams.

For me, the best way that I learned was with the videos only. Ham Radio Prep offers both video, and text you can read. The videos and practice tests were more than enough for me! I would watch the video, take the practice test, and I wouldn’t move on to the next lesson until I scored a 100% on the practice exam (minus the electric compontents… I still have nightmares trying to get a 100% on that section…)

I actually will just be starting my Extra classes this week, with a goal to go for my Extra exam at the end of next month.

Just keep practicing DAILY, because it is a lot of information, but repetition and studying will be your best friend (coming from someone who usually HATES studying for anything school related)

Best of luck & 73!

Great way to look at it. Remember there is only 1 question on each of 50 different topics, so if you get stuck on something, like smith charts, you might want to let it go.

hello. I used Ham Radio Prep extensively for both the General and Extra licenses - you might also consider watching the video series hosted on YouTube that Dave Cassler has produced and updated as new versions of the tests are released.

I did subscribe at the time and use the Ham for the Extra. It was a real help.

I like most of the below tried all the other methods first. Ham classes free and paid. Read all the books and it just seemed like I couldn’t get it.
So then I came across Ham study and tried the couple free lessons and then decided heck with what I already spent might as well go all in.
Took my Tech and passed with 100. Hadn’t planned on general but studied for about 6 days and then passed it with one wrong. So without a plan I studied extra for 4 days and then passed my extra with 3 wrong.
I would recommend ham study to anyone.

I don’t have my Extra yet, but I’m planning to use Ham Radio Prep.

I had a leg operation that had me laid up for 8 weeks. In that time I used the Ham Study and passed the first two levels. Then took another 4 weeks to get my AE. This was made very ez using the course.

Yes, I used it. Great background info, then took all the practice tests until I was confident. I am now an Extra. A nice structured resource.
