I put up two antennas on my house, 2/70 and GMRS. Anyone have pointers for getting better reception if you happen to live further into a valley of the PA hills? I happen to be about half way up in-between two hills and there is no way for me to get above them. Any antenna suggestions to help with better reception in a location such as this?
I am fortunate to live within a couple miles of a repeater for local communications and if I get my Generals license, I will probably have issues on HF (?)

Is it one direction or multiple? If it’s just one, you could use a 2M / 70CM Yagi pointed in that direction for additional gain. If it’s multiple directions then you would want to add a rotor to that.

That is great, and is reasonably priced. I will need to learn how to direct the antenna as necessary.
If I am looking for CQ, how do I determine where to direct the antenna for the best chance to have a contact?
Being new to that form of antenna I figured it best to ask.

I think you would need to experiment to see what works best for you. For instance, you might point at the mountains if you want to work some SOTA (Summits on the Air) stations. I might just start pointing toward the closest population center.
