Hi, I’ve noticed that the distances shown for QSOS sometimes are very much off. For instance, my longest distance contact is shown as 18552.9 KM for Vy2GF. That station is barely 131 Kms away. My friend VE9CF is shown as 241.8 Kms away when in fact he is only 37 Kms away. I suspect that this error happens frequently. QRZ always shows the correct distances.
@VE9CZ Hey Peter,
This is most likely because you dont have an operating location set in your main logbook called “VE9CZ Logbook”
Since you have a QRZ subscription and have QRZ callsign lookup enabled all the callsign data (including location data) is coming from QRZ when entering a callsign to log. So the only other option would be that the logbook doesn’t have a location added. When looking in your account i can see there isn’t a location set even though you have a default saved location added called FN76TF.
To add this simply goto your logbook, then logbook settings and click ‘location’ at the top. This will take you to the location section and you can set your saved location. One thing to note is this will only affect new QSO’s you log in this log book and not update all your previous QSO’s.
If you would like to update all your previous QSO’s in that logbook you can use the QSO manager to do a bulk update.
Here is a screen recording on how to do this:QSO Manager - Bulk Edit Location Data For Logbook & Setting Saved Locations | Loom

Hi Brad,
Many thanks for your email.
I just updated the location in my main logbook.
After having done that, I still get the wrong distance to VE9CF, who is 27 Km away and not 241.8.

The one contact that is showing 241.8 is because that qso doesn’t have ‘Their Grid’ added (see below)
The other contacts you have with Stuart do have a grid and are correct:
I’ve updated the contact so now it is showing correctly.
Also, it looks like for these contacts you are setting them as a pota activator contact (meaning you are activating the park). For example. That contact on Dec 30 2025 you have it set that you were at park CA-6505 is that correct or was VE9CF at that park?
If HE was at that park then you need to be putting the park information of the other person you are making a contact with in the ‘Their Park’ field underneath the Notes field.
If YOU were activating the park then you would add it in the ‘My Activities’ field in the quick settings bar above the main logging fields.
I hope this helps.

Hi Brad,
I will look into that.
Yes, on Dec.30 I was at that park and I neglected to include the correct locator.
Your suggestion certainly helps and I will be more careful next time.
