I want to create a logbook template that directly mirrors your pota activator logbook so that it prompts me right at the start for my park and then names the logbook accordingly-- but i want to be able to customize the fields that are within the logbook as well as the theme. seems to be no way to use your existing wrl pota activator template as the starting point for my template.. can this be added so we can use any of the wrl templates as a starting point to a custom one? thanks in advance-73 Neal
@KD0SPO Hey Neal
You can simply open two browser windows and in one, load up the pota activator template so you can see what fields and options are available and then in the other window goto World Radio League and then create a new logbook template and mirror it after the pota activator template. Then when you create a new logbook just select that template from the logbook templates drop down.
I hope this helps

Hello Brad- I understand what you are saying but unfortunately it’s still will not function like the pota activator template…if you use the world radio League pota activator template for a log book, when you first launch it it asks you what park you’re going to be in and it will automatically name that logbook appropriately with the park identifier and such… there is no way to create a template that will prompt the same as the built-in one does. instead I would have to do multiple steps to get the same outcome and in a custom template. I hope that makes sense and if not let me know I will do my best to clarify better but in the end we cannot create a custom template that directly mirrors the built-in activator one not just an appearance and Fields but in function.
thanks. 73s
@KD0SPO Hey Neal,
So I think there is just some confusion. The same pota functionality can be used with custom logbook templates as long as the pota activity is setup when creating the logbook. This will work for both the web app and the desktop app but wont work for the mobile app as we haven’t added logbook templates to the mobile app yet (although this is coming).
Here is a screen recording (a bit long, may need to 2x or 3x the speed as I kinda rambled on here) but this shows how to create a logbook template and then select it during logbook creation, set the pota activity and park reference and still have all the same functionality as the ‘pota activator’ template.
Now with all that said, i still could be missing something here that you are meaning functionality wise.

@KD0SPO Hey Neal,
So looking at your comment on the screen recording, when you are on the web app, if you go to the main logbooks page and click the gear icon you can set a default logbook template to use. When you create a new logbook it will always default to the logbook template you select.
As far as adding another option under the ‘Create New Logbook’ menu thats currently not possible but is something we may add in the future.

@K4AZE As an aside… when setting up the default Template I needed to add a new radio, so when I did that and then clicked Back, the settings I had previously entered had disappeared so I began again. Then when I had to add a new antenna and clicked Back everything had reverted to empty fields again.
It’s not a huge issue, but it would be nice if the Template page would hold the entries until the entire page is filled in and saved or cancelled.
Brad -I am aware of setting a default template but it does not stick when I click the pota button on that same screen.. clicking the pota button causes the default to change to the wrl-pota activator template instead of staying on my default template.

@KD0SPO I’ll add this as a feature request
@W7YBY Unless you hit the save button before entering the ‘View/Add More Radios’ buttons its not going to save as it doesn’t auto save unless you manually click the button. Thats how its intended to work
