Yesterday’s WRL Q&A live stream on UT with Andy @N0APX discussed, among other things, that when choosing a logbook, you have to decide whether you are an activator or a hunter (for POTA, SOTA, etc). And accordingly you should choose the right template.
This idea is IMHO too one-dimensional. When I am on a mountain or in a park, I am both an activator and a hunter. Let’s take an example:
When I make a QSO from the summit with an OM in a park, in this situation I am a SOTA activator and in the same time also a POTA hunter. And my contact in the park is then a POTA activator and a SOTA hunter.
So regardless of the template, I should always have the option of logging a park number, a mountain summit number or an island number. Such contacts sometimes come about spontaneously without having looked for them specifically. Therefore, every logbook should offer the option to log this spontaneously, also any acitivator logbooks.
@HB9EVT In any of the activator templates there will always be “TheirPark” or “TheirSummit” or “TheirWWFF”, etc so you can add that information in even if you are hunting, as an activator.
@HB9EVT It means that there always has been and always will be the ‘Their Park’ field on the pota activator template. This field is used to add the other operators (that your making a contact with, either as an activator or as a hunter) park reference that they are at.
There is a similar field if you are doing a SOTA activation. There will be a “Their Summit” field, or for WWFF there will be a ‘Their WWFF’ field.
This can be used during an activation even the operator is just hunting.
Hi Brad
Thanks for your clear answer. I will now do this: I’ll create for me a general hunting template in combination with SOTA/POTA activation.
