I understand I do not need to log any “hunted” POTA contacts as the activator will do that on the POTA site, but can I log as a regular contact (QSO) in my main log? I can create a seperate log, but I guess that doesn’t mean they will confirm the contact other than POTA, correct? Anyone else wonder about this? What do you do?
I log every contact I make on HF, even as a POTA hunter. As an activator, I upload to POTA, LOTW, QRZ, Club Log and eqsl. So if you hunt me you will get credit. But thats just me. Your mileage will vary with others.
Appreciate the response. I’ve had several hunted contacts and thought that if I didn’t log anything for my personal record it would feel like nothing happened in my own HF experiences since this is so easy to do. Gonna create a hunter log, thanks.
Yeah I know what you’re saying. I started out just hunting and not logging for like 3 years. Actually logging seemed complex and intimidating until I came across WRL. Now I log every contact. I personally create a weekly log Sunday through Saturday then I export it to LoTW, QRZ, & eQSL. Then I merge the log into my “2026” log, delete the empty week log and start again. It takes about 5 minutes on Sunday morning.
I certainly missed out on the ones I did not log. I had 48 states on POTA (still need AK & ND) but I need to get and log most of the west & northwest states again to get credit for WAS awards.
@K6NHL Hi Eric,
My logs are monthly for all my HF contacts, and then I have separate logs for anything special that I’m doing such as operating as W1AW/7, or participating in a contest.
WRL automatically syncs with QRZ (if you have the integration set up), and then I sync QRZ with LoTW, and at the end of each month I generate an ADIF and sent that to eQSL. That gives me 4 opportunities to get confirmed contacts since WRL nor any of the others will use the POTA log as confirmation for awards.
In addition, you can “re-check” your QRZ and LoTW through the QSO Manager and it will pull any of those confirmations back into WRL.
Bottom line… everyone is different, but if it’s an HF contact, I log it.
