New to Ham Radio, looking to purchase more than the UV5R

OK, I already have the UV5R and a TIDRADIO -TD-H8.

Is the BAOFENG DM-32 DM32 DMR 10W a worthy purchase? Is it better than the H8?

I do not have my license yet, but I’m almost finished with the Technician course and will be taking the test either this month or next. I spent 20 years in the Army as a Tanker, and have used every radio from the Vietnam era PRC-77 to the SINGARS. I feel I’m ready to join the “professionals”! lol

I look forward to communicating with people around the world.

Hello Tony,

I’d like to take a closer look at your request. Do you want to establish mainly local communications, or are you also looking to make long-distance contacts? The sets you’re showing are uhf-vhf sets, which are very good but with a lesser range. I’d advise you to find out more about HF sets too, as you’re also looking to make long-distance contacts. When you’re starting out, you tend to want to try out everything, so I’d advise you to take the time to think carefully about what you want to do with radio. Local / long-distance, fixed or portable station, etc… Exchanging ideas choice, and if you can join a club, even better.

So much for my initial advice. I’m also a beginner, having passed my license in June. Maybe some more experienced people will be able to complete my approach.

YouTube is a great place to learn about your radios. Hams all over the world make videos about radios, antennas, and other equipment. As for one of the models you mentioned, I typed in your model and found the following results:

Good luck on your search.

Thanks for the advice. I went with the AnyTone AT-D878UVII Plus – Dual Band DMR/Analog 7W VHF, 6W UHF Handheld Radio. I do intend to do HF and digital. I want to talk all over the world!

I will, of course, start local, then extend!

Thanks for the advice!
