Hi, I'm a newbie,

I just got my technicians license and I am starting to work on getting the General as well. I don't have a rig as of yet and I'll be on a limited budget to start. Is there a particular Radio that I can grow into as I get better and grow on frequencies that I can transmit on? I'd really like eventually a full sized unit. I was looking at the Icom I believe 7300 but what about areas where I can find rigs for sale? What I'm interested in eventually is long range communications. I use to pick up skip occasionally back in the late 1970's on CB even with low power using a Shakespeare Big Stick with 30 feet of mast outside a window. I had a great time. Of course being on the sixth floor of a six story apartment building helped!

@KC1WHX I recommend searching for Ham Radio equipment at dxengineering.com

They have rigs, antennas, power supplies, and everything

you could ask for at all sizes and prices!

Welcome to Amateur Radio! I got licensed in 1962 and have not regretted it. Rig wise check DX Engineering and HRO for reconditioned used rigs; highly recommended,

Otherwise at a hamfest find a used Kenwood TS-450 thru TS-590. Always a winner.
