Noise on all bands except 20m

I am very new to ham radio and I have a question about noise on the radio. My antenna is an efhw myantenna 4010. Making good contacts so far. But on all bands I have noise. But on 20 meters is it quite as a mouse. I have put ferrite beads everywhere… Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Jeff,

To test the radio, first remove the antenna and check for noise. If there is no noise, then we know that noise is coming through the antenna. Then turn off the computer and check for noise again, and also try turning off the router, LED bulbs, solar panels, etc. As to why there is no noise on 20M, a nearby band is 17M-do you experience any noise there?

dead quite with no antenna. I shot everything in the room off. Connected it to a battery and the noise is still the same.

OK if I go outside, connect to a battery connect directly to the antenna and it is dead quiet on 40 and 20 and 10. So it would seem it is on the line in the attic to my office….

Ok I figured it out… Maybe someone can learn from from this newbie mistake… For all the bands I had the PREAMP turned on EXCEPT 20M… So amazing how well it all works when you turn it off and then as well turn off Auto Gain how clean and clear things are…
