Proposal concerning fields -Their City- and -Their Grid-

Hi WRL Team

I am a little confused with the fields Their State, Their City and Their Grid in the logbook. Let me explain:

If I log a callsign, which is known in QRZ:COM, it copies the state, the city and the locator from QRZ:COM into these three fields.

If I log the same callsign as POTA P2P contact, it takes

  • the state and the grid from the park
  • but the city from QRZ:COM

:right_arrow: So Their City seems to be the home city (Home-QTH) and not to be the actual QTH. Correct?

If I log the same contact with addon /P (portable) or /M (mobile), it copies the state, the city and the locator from QRZ:COM into these three fields.

:right_arrow: If someone is portable or mobile, the chance is little, that this grid is correct. And maybe is actual in a different city …

If I log the same contact with a guest country prefix (e.g. F/HB9ZZZZ = a person with swiss callsign is actually on air in France), the field Their County is set correctly (e.g. for F/HB9ZZZZ is Their Country = France), but in the fields Their state and Their grid are filled automatically with some random entries (I assume for the mapping functions), which have nothing in common with the actual position of this ham.

Conclusion
I find it all a bit confusing. In these three fields the location of the home shack is mixed up with the current location (“QTH”) and sometimes something else is added for the display on the map.

My Feature Request

  1. Please separate the data earned from QRZ:COM and copy them into extra fields for home state, home city and home grid. I am happy to have this data in my logbook.
  2. Do not copy them automatically to the QTH fields state, city and grid when the callsign is portable or mobile.
  3. Maybe do never copy data from QRZ:COM automatically but offer a button in the contact entry form, so the user can decide individually which data should be copied for the actual contact.
  4. Please copy not only Grid and State from POTA:APP but also the park name into the Their city field.
  5. Please don’t fill wrong data in these fields only for mapping purposes. Please find another solution.
