When you go back to the POTA spotting page after quickly logging a contact from the spot list, can you add an option to filter the list automatically by frequency instead of by Date/Time? While hunting, every time I go back to the spotting page to scan frequencies for activators and scroll through the bands, I have to re-click the frequency sort button and wait for it to load, then scroll down the list to where I left off.
It would be super helpful if we had the ability to set our default list view by frequency instead of Date/Time. I greatly appreciate your site as Iâm getting deeper into the world of amateur radio, you make it fun and easy to track and hunt activators.
You can use the âspottingâ tab inside your logbook with filters in place to show, for example, only pota spots and then just click the frequency label in the grid to sort by frequency. (see below).
Hey Brad, thanks for getting back to this post so quickly! I am actually talking about when you are in the Spotting page, under the map at the bottom of the page it lists all active spots across whatever you are filtering for. That list automatically sorts by Date/Time and I tend to filter out the list by frequency instead of Date/Time so that I can scroll through the frequencies of the posted spots, so that I can see if I hear any POTA activators and try to make contact. Every time I use the quick log button in the spotted list and log the contact, when I go back to the spotting page the list of spots is again sorted by Date/Time and I need to click on the frequency sort button so that it re-sorts them by freq.
Current default loading of the Spots page (Frequencies are out of order and it is filtered automatically by Date/Time):
After clicking on the arrow next to Frequency, it filters properly by the frequencies of the spots so that itâs easier for me to spin the dial on my radio to get to the next spot listed:
After I log the next contact, when I go back to the Spotting page, the spots section is again defaulted to Date/Time and I have to re-sort by frequency. It would be awesome if I could set a default view option for the spotting page to automatically filter by frequency when I open the page so that I donât need to re-sort every time I go back to hunt.
To be honest, I just learned about the Spotting tab inside of the Logbook settings on the right so that actually makes hunting a lot more efficient than going back and forth between the pages but it still looks like the list in the Spotting tab reformats to Date/Time filtering when I navigate to another page and go back to my Logbook to the Spotting section. Having the default list view include a default âSort Byâ setting would be great there as well as on the main Spotting page.
@W2GSQ So the âSpottingâ PAGE is more meant to show a list of active spots vs being used like the âSpottingâ tab inside the logbook. Where the spotting tab inside the logbook is used for active hunting and logging. Everything inside the spotting tab should persist until you go to a different page then youâll need to resort. We will be making changing soon so that it stays persisted even after going to a different page.
@W2GSQ Are you also hitting the Pause button to keep the page from refreshing? I sort by frequency and pause the refresh, and then when I log a contact via that Spotting section it doesnât change on me and then I can refresh whenever I want to or hit the Resume button (changes from the Pause button) to let it do the refresh automatically.
Initially, I wasnât using the Spotting section inside of my Logbook when I posted this request. I have been using it today and it functions much more efficiently than I was previously doing it (jumping back and forth between Logbook and the main Spotting page on the left, then re-sorting by frequency)âŚ
I still have to sort by frequency after I initially load up the Spot section of the logbook but thatâs it, and I have been pausing the refresh so I donât have to scroll down and find out what frequency I was last on.
I guess the only way to make it more efficient now would be to add a âdefault spot viewâ setting that would let me set a persistent sort by frequency setting, but clicking on it one time at the start of my POTA hunting session isnât all that difficult.
Yup, thatâs what K4AZE said above, would be a good addition but after finding out about the spotting section in logs, this request is not as âcriticalâ as I thought it was
I just drag the tab for POTA spotting to another screen and adjust the decending freq to pause and go back and forth on tabs. Easy. Once I get through the list, I refresh and turn the dial to the stations that are new. Thatâs just me but I understand the frustration on that.
What would be nice is that each station thatâs logged⌠be highlighted in the pota spotter so time isnât wasted going back to them again until the new day.
