Understanding Sideband Better

I am currently a General Class licensee and taking the Extra course from HamRadioPrep. I have used my SSB for years, but I do not really understand the concepts of display frequency vs. transmit band for USB/LSB operation. Can someone recommend a good YouTube that explains this or some other learning tool to understand. Unfortunately I am mostly at sea and not near a local club or Elmers to teach much about how to operate my radio to the best of its ability. I can do what I need to do, which is send Winlink emails and use DSC calling etc. But there is much there to be setup I do not understand and it all starts with understanding SSB mode concepts.

Here is a slide from a presentation I did while teaching an amateur radio license prep class a year or so ago. The presentation was on the concept of bandwidth, but this slide shows a visual depiction of USB signal relative to the carrier. LSB would just be the same thing, but the signal would be lower than the carrier. And AM would be both USB and LSB (both sides of the carrier), plus the actual carrier frequency itself.

I’m not sure if this will help you, but I (and I’m sure many others) would be glad to explain it further.

Thank you so much for this. The chart they used in the class is very confusing.
