SSB, USB, and LSB Categories

Hi, I just got my General and downloaded WRL. I see that when logging a contact there are option selections for SSB, but also for USB and LSB.

This confused me. For example, if I made the contact using USB, do I select USB or SSB? What is the difference if both are mutually correct?

@KQ4EYY Hey Amy,

First welcome to WRL!!! So USB is used for 20m and above (17m, 15m, 12m, 10m etc etc)and LSB is used for 40m, 80m, 160m. They are both just sub modes of SSB and while technically you could make a contact on 20m using LSB as long as the other party was on the same mode its typically not done.

I wont speak for everyone but most users on WRL just log the contact(s) as SSB vs splitting it out in USB or LSB. When logging a contact in your WRL logbook once you set the frequency it will auto set the mode and band for you so you dont really have to worry or think about it much :wink: You certainly can set it to USB or LSB if you would prefer to get that detailed though.
