USB Freqency Integration

The one thing that would make this a usable and valuable app to me is to allow a USB connection to the tranceiver so that the frequency, mode, etc. would intergrate into the log. I see no way to do that currently, so I do not use the app except for a little but if I don’t have my laptop. I use HRD Logbook (and that is all I use on that software rally. It would be great to use the cleaner and simpler WRL interface, but since I do hunting rather than CQs and manually inputting that informataion for each contact is too difficult with my poor vision.
Hope this can be done, especially on the web version! Thank you.

@KA6UAI Hey Ron,

We have a cat control app that you can download via the integrations page (World Radio League). This will allow you to do rig control from your radio to the web app and allow you to double click on spots in the spotting tab inside your logbook as well as update the frequency (which auto updates the band and mode) either via the VFO on your radio or by manually entering a frequency in the frequency field in the logbook.

You can also stream QSO’s from WSJTX\JTDX into your WRL logbook.

We will be implementing cat control natively into the desktop app in one of the next releases. The current desktop app is still VERY VERY beta but the web app (https://app.worldradioleague.com) is fully featured.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for that info. I’ll get the laptop I use for portable and try that out. Hope to do an antenna test in the backyard today anyway so that will be a good chance to do it.

I may try that on the shack setup too, but the HRD logbook on that one with two huge screens seems to work OK and I’m used to it. But simpler for portable will be great!

@KA6UAI Yeah for sure! If you run into any issues dont hesitate to reach out. Happy to help! What radio are you running?

I have it set up on the portable laptop but haven’t spent the time to configure with the two radios yet. I use 3 radios with the laptop, an FT-891 for mobile and another for portable, plus my favorite but heavier FT-710 for portable.

I hope to get into activations through the late Spring and Summer, but so far it has mostly been quick setups at nearby non-numbered parks for a bit of setup testing (my wife and I work together on the setup/teardown and they I do a bit of hunting for parks and DX. The easiest POTA parks to get to from here are in Auburn CA and up into various spots in the Tahoe National Forest. But Folson Powerhouse and Recreation areas are close by too. Since I don’t drive, we have to have coordinated schedules.

We did head to a very close-by park about 2 weeks ago and except for the terrible moose level here over about a 3 day period, we successfully operated a 17’ POTA Performer whip in 29 mph gusts. I just a screw anchor under the 5’ tripod with an adjustable cord to pull it down and that thing did not budge for 2 hours.

Most days out I make a lot of hunting contacts and at least a bit of DX, even with just the elevated whip. The 33’ mast and 30’ or 60’ wires get me on easy multiband for that is a lot of fun too. The Ft-710 is an amazing radio in the shack and portable. The one in the shack has a 400@ amp though and that sure would be nice in the field if I could pack up a generator and amp!
