Activity Pages Are Not Showing Correct Stats (In Progress)

When I do a POTA activation, I don’t seem to see it listed on the WRL parks list. The parks near me all show “0 activations” when I know I’ve logged WRL activities at them. Here’s my process, maybe I’m doing something wrong:

  1. Start an Activation on pota.app
  2. Clear my local logbook
  3. Make my QSOs and record the logs in an ADIF
  4. Submit the log file to pota.app to confirm the activation
  5. Start an activation on WRL
  6. Select “create new logbook”
  7. Submit the same ADIF to that logbook

So now I have all these logbooks an activations but they don’t seem to show up on WRL

Any help appreciated!

@KB0RB I think there might be a couple of things going on here.

  1. When you say you clear your local logbook what do you mean?
  2. Are you creating a new logbook in WRL for each activation and setting the POTA activity and adding the park?

You should simply just be able to create a new logbook in WRL, set the pota activity and add your park information. You can spot yourself directly to pota when creating the logbook and shouldn’t have to do anything on the actual pota site itself. Then you just log your contacts in WRL and when you’re done just export your ADIF and upload to the pota site.

Now with that said, I do think there could potentially be an issue with map that shows how many activations from a particular park you’ve had but I want to confirm the above before digging down that rabbit hole.

Let me know the answers those questions and we’ll get you sorted out.

Hey there and thanks for the reply.

  1. I just start a new WSJT log. I do mainly digital for POTA
  2. Yea, that’s what I do.

It does look like the issue is mainly on the map. Check out parks US-3413,3415,3525,3423 for example. Those are the 4 I did this weekend. I have confirmed activations for all 4 on POTA.app, but if you search them in WRL they all show 0 activities/activations.

@KB0RB Got it, sounds like you are doing everything correctly. I’m assuming you’re using the WRL cat control app with WSJTX to stream the contacts to your WRL logbook, correct?

It sounds like the data being pulled from the database isn’t accurately showing the number of activations. I’ll have the team look at this.

@KB0RB Hey Jon

Just a heads up. We have addressed all mentioned cases in this bug report:

  1. Missing Data (Name & Profile Picture)

  2. Show recent activator info in activity Popup for any activity

  3. Latest WRL Activations was showing QSOs but its updated to show correct latest activations

  4. Refactored logic for calculating total activations, my activations and my hunt count

I just pulled up 1065 Picacho Peak and the WRL map is showing 1 activation but POTA is showing 358.

I did refresh the map before checking. I did not check the others I had previously mentioned.

@W7YBY This is because currently we dont sync that data from pota we use our own numbers based on our data from within WRL. ie: users that use WRL to activate/hunt.

i hope this makes sense.

Ahhhh… yes, that does make sense.

Hey folks! Very sorry for the late replies. I still am not getting email notifications on subscribed topics even though I’ve confirmed all my settings in the forum here. Let me go check out my activations and see what the result here is!

To reply to your direct question @K4AZE the way my contacts stream to my logs is via GridTracker (I posted another feature request elsewhere for integration there) - to QRZ, LoTW, eQSL all at once. I then upload the ADIFs manually to my WRL logbooks and to POTA.app

This still seems off to me. Here’s a screenshot both of the US-3497 park I activated recently as well as my own activation log for that activity. I picked that one at random, but there are 8-10 others I could have used as well.

Apparently I can only upload one file at a time so here’s the second screenshot

@KB0RB That would most likely be why its not showing the correct count. If you upload your contacts to WRL via an adif they don’t count towards leaderboards or analytics. We do that because the stats can easily be manipulated.

Ah, i see. I’m noticing on today’s activation it didn’t even count as an activation because only one of my 50 QSOs was a WRL user.

Honestly, I don’t love this system. I appreciate the intent behind why it was designed how it was but the net impact to me is that it’s of no value to spend time logging the activation on WRL, and as a result I probably won’t keep doing all those extra steps.

Shame as I’m very excited for this to indeed be the “Future of Ham Radio” but you’ve created a walled garden where only contacts that happen entirely in its walls “count”, before you’ve really hit the critical mass of users needed for a network effect. I’m sure this was a calculated risk, but I think its one that puts a lot of folks on the outside.

@KB0RB did you use WRL during your activation, and log the contacts in the app? If so then it should show, although there may be a task/script that runs to check and update activation information I’m not entirely sure if it’s realtime or not. However if you didn’t use WRL to do the activation then it wouldn’t show. The contacts being confirmed don’t have anything to do with it showing as an activation in WRL.

What extra steps are you referring to, because none outside of logging inside WRL are a requirement. “only contacts that happen entirely in its walls “count” “ is incorrect because like I mentioned previously, you don’t have to make contacts with other WRL users for it to count as an activation.

we are constantly rolling out fixes, updates, and new features; weekly, to better the platform.

I DO like the platform a lot! The system I was referring to was the confirmation system and POTA integration, which I’m sure will only get better with time.

The extra steps I was referring to were the ones I mentioned above - starting the WRL activation and uploading the ADIF. I don’t log directly to WRL yet as I haven’t had a chance to go through the very detailed guide you provided for the CAT control app. But if I wasn’t using that - and was using a paper log instead, let’s say, then it sounds like I’d never see WRL “credit” for the activations.

With regard to the 1 confirmed QSO I see from today’s activation, it’s the only reason I can think of that if you look at US-10417 in WRL, you’ll see one “unsuccessful” activation, under my name, with only a single QSO. Yet I uploaded a log containing 49 QSOs to my WRL activity, all of which were accepted and confirmed non-duplicate. So if it’s not as predictable as “that 1 was also a WRL user,” something else is wacky there!

Appreciate all the responses and help!

Here’s a link to the park and activity: World Radio League

You can see the numbers are pretty screwy there, compared to my logbook that’s got 44 confirmed (uploaded) contacts in the screenshot here

It’s also worth noting that I don’t seem to ever be able to see park stats in the app. It just always says 0 activations 0 qsos and has an infinite loading spinner for the details. I have to use the website instead, which isn’t always the most optimized on a phone

@KB0RB The confirmation logic is set to the same as other sites such as QRZ, both parties need to log their contacts in WRL with the same freq, band and time (within a window). The same as QRZ. If those match then it confirms the contact.

The reason your seeing on “unsuccessful” activation is because you didn’t log all the contacts via the app you logged one and then uploaded an ADIF from another logger. If all your contacts were logged via WRL then it would show a successful activation and the correct number of qso’s.

Even if contacts are imported, all the analytics on the park / activity page inside WRL should be correct - it just matters that the contacts are inside WRL.

If not, just add some details of which park you activated and where you imported the data and use Report a Bug, we will fix it!

We did just release fixes for the data this week, so you might want to check again and see if it is showing correctly now!

For my local park, it shows all the stats of activations, QSOs, etc as an example: World Radio League
