Hello - I’m a relatively new HAM and plan to start doing some POTA activations. If I click ‘New POTA activation’ on PC (or +New Logbook and select the +POTA option using the android WRL mobile phone app), will I automatically be spotted, and will these contacts automatically export to the POTA site, or will I need to manually import or key in on the POTA site?
Welcome Chris! WRL can autospot you on desktop and on your mobile app automatically, without having to enter the data on the POTA website!
On Desktop:
When you start an activation, you will see a checkbox on Desktop that says “Autospot to POTA”, and if you check that, it will spot you. You can respot during operating from the logging page.
On mobile app:
Create the logbook, and once you are logging, you will see an option called POTA Autospot - click this and enter your details to spot yourself!
Let us know any feedback or if you have any difficulties, we’re here to help anytime!
@W8CBG to answer your second question, even though you are automatically spotted on the POTA page, logbooks will have to be manually uploaded in ADIF file format to the POTA page after the activation. They can easily be exported in ADIF format from WRL.
I did an activation today, and exported the ADI file to POTA… One problem. My P2P designations apparently did not export or carry over in the ADI file, 3 of my 14 contacts were P2P, bot POTA doesn’t let you go back and modify any uploaded logs. Did I do something wrong, or do I need to duplicate the other park’s number somewhere else?
@W8CBG Thank you for reaching out! I sent you a DM.

Park to park numbers almost don’t matter because you don’t get credit for a park to park unless the other activator includes your call sign in their log… the POTA site makes the match… so I wouldn’t be overly concerned about this… generally I don’t even write down the other park number because of this reason …
I was just reading this post trying to figure out how to upload this ADIF. Could some one please explain it a little better i am not up on computer operation. Worked my first park yesterday and trying to figure it out .Thanks
@KF0KJR Congrats on the successful park activation! Many logging programs have an option for you to export your log entries as a certain file type that you can upload to other logging programs to use, saving you a lot of manually reentering your log entries on a second site, like POTA. ADIF or .ADI files are one of those types. If you go into one of your WRL logs, there is a cog wheel in the upper right corner. Click it to go into your settings. Midway down there is an option to ‘Export Log Files’. Click the button that says ‘export ADIF’. This will prompt a file download of your ADI file, a little window should pop up somewhere in your browser. You can click ‘save as’ and choose the file name and location you want to save it in. That file can be uploaded to the other sites.
@KF0KJR Congrats on the POTA activation! POTA is a lot of fun. If you already have a POTA account, you can go to the “My Log Uploads” tab on the https://pota.app page and easily upload your ADIF, after you’ve exported it as @W8CBG described. POTA on!
