I have not yet imported my previous log into WRL because I would lose previous fields.
My feature request is therefore:
Each user can freely define three fields for their log. This means that thdere are three fields for which the user can freely choose the name of the field and the content (e.g. with a maximum of 80 characters).
These additional fields are also exported during an ADIF export.
These additional fields can also be imported during an ADIF import. During the import, you will be asked which field in the ADIF belongs to which field in the log (if the field names differ).
For example, I would use these three individual fields as follows:
a) If I have a longer QSO with a club call sign, then I also note the name and personal call sign of the operator.
b) If the QSO took place during an event or contest, I have a field where I note this.
c) For a QSO over a network (DMR, Fusion, …), I log which network and in which conference room on the network the QSO took place.
But it is very much down to the individual to decide which additional fields are needed. So my feature request is for three individually selectable fields.
I’ll check into the status of this but I do like this suggestion a lot! I think it would take a bit of re-arranging of the import/export functionality to make this work. I’ll reach out to the team and see where we are on this!
I have two additional comments to my feature request from January:
1)
I now think that networks should generally be offered as two standard fields (Field ‘Network’ + field ‘Node/Room’). In addition to DMR, C4FM, etc., this should also include EchoLink (if, for example, I contact a repeater using FM and then link the repeater to another repeater using EchoLink: e.g. Mode: FM, Network: EchoLink, Node/Room: 42351).
2)
And here I saw that other logging suites offer up to 6 individual fields. So, to be competitive, there should be 6 fields realized instead of 3.
We are about to launch are new logbook template creator that will allow users to create and edit different layouts for their logbooks and save those as templates to be re-used and in the future share amongst other users. This should include custom fields as well ;). I will post a thread on the beta testers group when this is on the dev environment for testing.
