Finding frequencies to listen for emergency in your area

Just purchased a Baofeng UV-5R and my plan is just to listen and listen for emergency warnings. Would love to know what frequency I need to set up for my area. I am Kansas City, Metro in Clay and Platte County Missouri.
Would love to know who I can ask questions to online for help and information. No plan on getting License as of yet.

Welcome to the forum!

This site from the National Weather Service: County Coverage By State will tell you the right frequency to get weather radio reception for your county.

It also has a list of SAME codes. Those codes can be used on weather radios to trigger an alarm when NWS sends an alert for that particular county. I found a weather radio with SAME at a thrift store for $3 recently, so keep your eyes open. They are around $30 new.
