tab order is all over the place. from callsign, tabbing jumps cursor to power, then to “their name” and then to “my radio”. it needs to go in reading order.
need to do some input validation, especially in accordance with ADIF. E.g. i can put any foobar text in RST sent/received, frequency, power, grid, etc. But It is good to see there’s some autofill (e.g. filling frequency autopopulates band/mode)
the country/state dropdowns gets in my way more than it helps. instead do an HamDB lookup to fill country (i.e. DX entity) or based on callsign prefix from internal lookup table, and
speaking of which, is hamDB/HamQTH/QRZ lookup integration in the plan?
in edit contact menu, change button to OK or Update instead of edit contact. and upon clicking, return to logbook with a dropdown toast confirmation notification. Also add an “X” in upper right or cancel button – there’s no way to return to the log unless you browser back or click Log Contacts and reopen your log
squish down the column widths on the log so I can see it all in a maximized window on a typical 1080p screen
Add (UTC) after Time
if there’s a error, the text box is highlighted with a thin red line. it’s surprisingly low contrast. i’d recommend a jiggle or some other moving UI element, and a toast notification that says “hey idiot you forgot to put in the frequency” or something
I saw the prior comments of import/export. i think that should be a pretty high priority. I’m fine with starting a HAMRS or Contest log from scratch just for that particular POTA, event, contest, etc, but this bills like a general logger; most folks already have a log and would rather transition from that to this. However, with respect to the recent announcement (live contesting and scoring) WRL logbook could have some future capability that cross-checks, scores, ranks, and awards contacts logged in and leverage features from WRL, and importing from other logging systems could be a challenge to incorporate. That could be worked around by creating log categories - one for general logging and interoperability with other systems, and another category for WRL-specific contests/scoring/awards. Or some kind of tag that ID’s imported log contacts vs WRL logged contacts. Or cross check them all anyway, a la LOTW.
the mobile interface has a long way to go - lots of broken stuff in mobile browser.
also, i’m a power user of most things ham radio, and a contester, so i’m a heavy nitpicker of stuff that adds like a tenth of a second to my workflow, so take my critique with a grain of salt
As it stands, i have no good reason to migrate from my logging workflow from HAMRS, N1MM, FLE, or hamlog (which I export from and import to N3FJP then export to eQSL/LoTW/QRZlog) to WRL logbook. I was also never a big fan of HRP & ARC so I had reservations. But the live contesting and real-time scoring really caught my ears. I write and talk about that a LOT (finally someone is listening! ) so I’m looking forward to that development. You got a long road to hoe!
SUPER appreciate the time to giving feedback on the logbook, it means a lot
Tab order should be fixed in next release!
Great call out on some validation - we’re adding ADIF import and export soon so your comment here is going to save us some trouble!
HamDB lookup is already working in DEV and coming out in the next release!
We will be maintaining our own database in the mid-term future instead of relying on other databases. For now we’re using HamDB
In the next release, we’ve changed the UI to a popup and fixed the button options. We’ll also be adding a contact management page with bulk update so you can move contacts from one log to another, etc
Agreed - it’s almost like we need to zoom out!
Fix is in the next release for showing UTC. We also added UTC
Haha! Didn’t notice this. I’ll definitely take a look
This is very much in line with how we’re thinking about it. As we begin to host live contests, it is advantageous to have people logging in WRL for the live functionality. Import and Export is very high up the priority lists, but there are a few things we have to get done first that block it - for instance confirmed contact functionality will likely need to be ready so we can go ahead and start trigging confirmations as they come in.
100%!
Don’t apologize for the great feedback - we LOVE that you spent the time to write it out. We know these details matter a lot and feedback from an experienced contester like yourself is like a gift
Totally makes sense that you wouldn’t replace your log flow with WRL today - I expect the early adopters now will be people who see the vision of making a truly interactive modern experience, that builds on what we started at Ham Radio Prep geared at bringing new hams into the hobby and getting them operating and on the air - achievements, competitions, never before seen features.
We’ve done all this in just 3 months, and we’re just getting started
We’re no stranger to pushback from any of our projects - change can be uncomfortable for many people. I’ve heard lots of stories of industry insiders really hating HRP! But I get ENERGIZED from hearing hundreds of stories from students who say that they never would have received their ham radio license if it wasn’t for our program. I’m going to keep building for the people that love using our services. And as long as we can bring people happiness from getting licensed and learning something new, then I’ll never be discouraged! Onward and upward
Thanks for stopping by and if you decide to keep using WRL or get involved in any capacity it would be a real honor!

New member here, thanks for something new, came across it by accident
I’m currently working some FT8 contacts on 10 meters, and trying to add contacts into your online logbook.
The difficulty I have, and its just a small thingy, and maybe something I just need to click to activate my side, but worth bringing up I think.
When I am entering call info into the log, I think it should automatically remember / keep some of the last logged Info, for instance its currently not able to hold CAT info for frequency and Mode etc, so if I am saving a contact, then these fields automatically clear, Then I need to manually type them in again, for each and every contact, and when there’s a few people coming back to me, well, I’m just too slow at entering stuff manually, and I’m already thinking - Why am I punishing myself like this.? Is there no way to have WSJT-X auto log to this online logbook? anyways, that’s me and my 5 cents for today…
