@VE3RPY

These are the settings that @N0WRL uses and it works great for him.

CI-V Baud rate: Auto
CI-V address: 94h
CI-V Transceive: ON
CI-V USB Port: Unlink from remote
CI-V USB Baud Rate: 9600
CI-V USB Echo Back: OFF
USB Send: off
USB Keying: off

I would also add:

  • Important Notes (For Windows Users):

    • Go to ‘Device Manager’ –> ‘Ports (COM & LPT)’ and right click on your COM port for your radio, then click ‘Properties’

    • Under the ‘Port Settings’ Tab, make sure you have set the baud rate under the ‘Bits Per Second’ drop down that you’ve set inside your radio settings (do this for both COM ports for your radio, if you have more than 1).

    • If you have a ‘Power Management’ Tab make sure to uncheck/disable the two options here that say “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” & “Allow this device to wake the computer”.

Thanks & 73

@VE3RPY Hey Raymond

Actually every 7300 user that has followed the instructions has everything working as expected.

  • Important Notes (For Windows Users):

    • Go to ‘Device Manager’ –> ‘Ports (COM & LPT)’ and right click on your COM port for your radio, then click ‘Properties’

    • Under the ‘Port Settings’ Tab, make sure you have set the baud rate under the ‘Bits Per Second’ drop down set to 9600 (IMPORTANT) Do this for both COM ports for your radio, if you have more than 1.

  • Icom 7300 Radio Settings (may have to turn CI-V USB Echo Back: On):

    • CI-V Baud rate: Auto

    • CI-V address: 94h

    • CI-V Transceive: ON

    • CI-V USB Port: Unlink from remote

    • CI-V USB Baud Rate: 9600 ** IMPORTANT **

    • CI-V USB Echo Back: OFF

Not exactly. I’m on a 7300 and I too can control my radio with Potacat but not WRL. I’ve tried all your suggestions. It might work for a few seconds then it just stops. Two different cables. I’m passed it but just so you know someone else still has the issue.

Well I am glad I am not the only one ( not glad it doesn’t work for you ) I to have tried everything they have suggested new cable as well, with potacat it works fantastic would just love to use only WRL tho just don’t know what else to try.. Thanks for the info. Please if you ever figure it out reach out. Thank You

Right now it’s working again for me. We’ll see how long it lasts. I did change it to 9600 bauds from 19200 but I’ve done that before. I’ll see if it holds.

Great glad for you, let me know…and Thank you

It was working pretty consistently for awhile last night, but, I don’t know what I do besides rebooting occasionally or messing around with other software that makes it just stop working and no amount of checking & double checking the baud rate and other settings helps at all. It’s very odd. I’d so love to have it work consistently, but it just doesn’t for me. Hope you get yours working.

Hi Tess,
It only worked once for me. WRL told me everyone they know who has the Icom 7300 worked for them. They gave me all the settings, I tried everything 4-5 times new cable even bought a CI-v cable.
Unless its another setting in the radio I just can’t figure it out, works so good with potacat. Just can’t figure why it works for others. Thanks for the info Tess take Care

@VE3RPY You shouldn’t need a CI-v cable (not even sure what that is tbh). Just the regular usb cable with the radio settings set exactly as are listed above is what James and the other users are using for cat control to work as expected. Now with that said, you could have additional settings in the radio that are conflicting with the recommended settings. Another big gotcha is the baud rate must be set to 9600.

A CI-V cable is a specialized data cable used to connect Icom amateur radios to a computer or other peripheral equipment. As you guided me with all the settings and I did buy another usb cable it still does not work, but i agree 100% with you it could be another settings. I just love WRL and only want to use that program, I am not giving up…lol

Hi all - another tip here - try out the CAT control on our desktop app if you haven’t yet!

The desktop app has a tighter integration with the radio since it is downloaded on your device.

Download the desktop app here: Download Desktop App

The new version is working so far for me. Definitely have to have the baud rate at 9600. WFview won’t show the waterfall without a baud rate of 11500O but that’s a small inconvenience.

Are you talking about the desktop app, it does work for me without changing any settings
