I want to set up a POTA in my local park on 2 m. Will I be pretty limited if so?
Short answer is YES.
It is possible to spot yourself on 2m but you will be working simplex, no repeaters for POTA. You will be limited in range on 2m. It may not work well with an HT. Ideally to have best chance of success you would want the highest power rig you can have like a 50w mobile or 100w base paired with a good vertical as high as possible.
To increase your chances of success if possible find a POTA park in a metropolitan area. Also try to let others in the area know in advance of you activation. Talk to your club members & maybe do it on a weekend.

To add to Barry’s point, we had a club member notify everyone of when he was going to be doing this and he was able to make a number of contacts. However, compared to your park he was about 1500’ above the rest of us so his signal did carry for a good distance.
We also had another club’s president go up in a hot air balloon and make a good number of contacts. But again, with prior notice to his club and all the other clubs in the Phoenix area.
