I am on a search and rescue group and we are looking into getting another repeater. We have a repeater on our command trailer but have had some issues with having “no signal zones”. Is there a small portable repeater that could link to the main system?

You could try making a simplex link like using a simplex repeater and then when the simplex repeater transmits it keys up the main repeater and re-replays the recorded message from the simplex link and then the simplex repeater can be linked to a 50watt base or a 5watt ht that’s how I run a local repeater system and everytime the simplex link is keyed it sends a tone to the main repeater that way the group knows if someone is on simplex link or main repeater

For Mobile-portable use i used a baofeng uv-5r and for a base unit i used a cheap qyt radio but what i did not put is that the wouxun kg-uv9d does cross band repeat and its a ht all you would do is set ur repeater frequency on channel a and a simplex on channel b and you would not have to wait for it to repeat each time and you cantrol the ctcss pl tone and if you wanted a offset like another repeater i also use this radio for the system on ares/races practices 73 kk7rez
