New Tech. no radio, need advise

I just got my Call Sign but do not have my first radio. It was suggested to start with the MD9600 PLUS system as a first radio. Smart move or not? Asking for verification or better recommendations. Just trying to learn the art right now, working on my General.

Thanks all! - Rob

I suggest an HT, like a Baofeng UV-5R that I have (It’s great!).

I bought the BFTech F8HP Pro and a Nagoya NA-320A antenna for my starter. I highly recommend it

By all means you have earned a break!

Definitely, hands down, the baofeng F8HP-PRO. The stock antenna is good as well. The directions are clear and it is also a tri band and has minor other channels such as weather. It is Chirp programmable or the software from the BTech site works as well. The fiermware update is simple and very understandable if you YouTube it from HamTechDrone in England. I promise you wont be disappointed. 73!!! KJ5MRI
