Offline Authentication

I would like the ability to use the mobile app completely offline. The app prompts me to login when I first open it and requires internet access to authenticate. Could local authentication be implemented so that if one does not have internet access, they could still login and authenticate and use the app offline? The local logs could then be synced to WRL once internet access is available.

@WD9AJI Hey Tom,

This is something we’ve discussing and working on figuring out the best way to handle this going forward.

Thanks & 73

Thanks for the quick response. I’m glad to hear it’s being worked on. I plan on operating POTA in some remote places without internet access for several days. I would like to use the WRL mobile app to do my logging.

If you login before you go out, and you are completely offline - logging should work fine!

It shouldn’t require you to login again every time you open the app, the login should still be cached.

In theory that sounds like a solution, but in practice that won’t always work. I’m planning a trip out west where I will be camping for multiple days without cellphone or internet service. I have tried you simulate this situation here at home, where I have logged into the WRL app while on the internet. I then exit the WRL app and put my phone in airplane mode. Sometimes I am able to open up the app without having to log in. Other times I am prompted to log in and then I have to turn airplane mode off to get logged in.

I really like the WRL app, both the mobile and desktop version. I also like the website version. I want to make WRL my main logging application and become a paid subscribed user, but the online authentication requirement is a deal breaker for using it for POTA, at least for my upcoming west trip.

Thanks for doing the in-depth testing here @WD9AJI !!

It sounds like we might have a little more work to do to make sure it doesn’t get logged out.

Thank you for your help, we will work on this!
