Say HELLO and Introduce Yourself!

Hello From Clayton Oklahoma Very new to all this but eager to learn just passed my Technician exam and only made a few contacts but so far so good using a Anytone At878uvII plus ATM just got a tram mobile antenna that has done ok for now looking for a quad band mobile right now I’m close to 5 repeaters that I can hit with my radio I’m a member of The Kiamichi Amateur Radio Club and will be studying for my general soon 2m and 70cm seem good in my area and looking forward to bigger and better coms

Hello my name is Robert Brown KF0ODY from Kansas City Missouri I have my technician class license and I am having trouble programming in repeaters in my area I would appreciate any help offered thanx.

I’ve had attic antennas before but if you can get anything outdoors, it will be better. You’ll have more noise while causing RFI in the house. I kept setting off the security alarm.

At my current QTH I put up a 10-40 OCF made with blue wire and the HOA never said a word. It worked pretty well.

I now operate remotely and that is not an issue for me.

Hi all! I haven’t formerly introduced myself, so I thought I’d leave a “quick” reply. Before this past weekend, I was a VIP subscriber but didn’t use WRL all that much. I was mainly lurking to see how development went. I decided this past weekend to purchase the Life VIP membership, as I have been impressed with the development so far. I’m excited to see where WRL goes, and will use it as my primary logger going forward.

I’ve passed my Technician/General/Extra tests on 9/11/2003 after a weekend of studying using the Ham Radio Prep mobile app. I’m an electrical engineer who works in the RF industry, so I mainly just had to focus on the rules/regulations. By the way, I’m very impressed by folks who pass the extra with no previous electrical engineering experience/knowledge. There are a few complex topics there!

I’ve been enjoying the hobby immensly, and I’m not sure why I waited so long to get into it. After buying and reselling a lot of gear, I’ve settled on my current setup of a Yaesu FTX-1 Optima with 40-10 EFHW antenna at home and a Yaesu FTX-1 Optima with Tarheel Designs 100 Pro HP on my truck. I also do QRP with an FX4CR and QRP Labs QMX and QMX+. For VHF/UHF, I primarily use VR-N7600 for mobile/base and VR-N76 HTs.

I really enjoy POTA activating and hunting, and enjoy a mix of modes (SSB, CW, FT8 primarily). I’m looking forward to taking more part in this community and seeing where WRL is headed in the next year!

Oh… and I use Linux for everything, so I’m VERY MUCH looking forward to the desktop app!

Clayton, KV4CW

Hello @KV4CW - GREAT call sign by the way!

Thanks so much for your support - we’re a pretty small outfit if you haven’t noticed but we work hard. And thanks to support from you, we’re in a really good position to launch AMAZING improvements in 2026!

I’m also an Electrical Engineer by training but I only worked in EE for a short time before moving to software!

I love the mobile setup, congrats on the FTX-1 Optima with the tarheel! I went the route with ICOM 7100 and hamstick and it works great for me. I really considered the FTX-1, looks like an awesome radio.

Our team is here to support anytime and thanks so much for being a part of WRL. :rocket:

Hello, I’m Chris, N3UBU. Recently joined WRL and really like it so far. Very easy and quick to log and I love the spotting features. I used Ham Radio Prep to get my General and Extra. I look forward to being part of this growing community!

Hello. Just joined. Trying to study for my technical license. Just bought a small ham and even though I can’t transmit yet, can i at least listen to like weather and such?

I’m Shaun, W7SWF, live in Washington state. Just joined as a Life member. I’m a General, studying for my Extra. Currently in the process of installing a Yaesu FTX-1 Optima in my truck. Routing wires is fun! Bonding is fun! I am a 20+ year law enforcement officer and retired USAF Security Forces Superintendent. Looking forward to the continued innovation that WRL is bringing!

Howdy everyone. My name is Ben. I live in east Idaho and recently got my Technician license. KM7EWF. Trying to get things going here for me. My father passed down a Baofeng BF-f8hp and I’ve also purchased a Retevis RT95. I’m looking for any suggestions for a beginner. What would you have done differently if you could go back and start over? I’m loving the way this works but I’m struggling reaching out to others. What is the best way to get going?

@KM7EWF I would say, get into HF as fast as possible. Honestly, I barely used my handheld anymore, although I really should LOL

HF is where most of the fun is, in my opinion!

Welcome to WRL, thanks so much for checking it out!
