So, I took my Technician exam today and missed one question! Then, after I finished and was graded, one of the VE’s asked me if I wanted to take the General exam, too, since it was free, and, who knows, you might even pass it, he said! Yeah, right!!! lol

I only scored a 50 on that exam, but, never having even looked at the material, it bodes well for me, with a bit of studying, right?

Hi everybody, I’m Katie! I’m wanting to get into amateur radio by way of tragedy. My fiance/boyfriend died suddenly last June. He was an elmer. & had an extra class + VE. I have just 1 radio of his; A Yaesu ft 2900, the hand mike (Yaesu) & an antennae. And a need to honor his memory by getting my technician’s (and more). At this time I have so much going against me to accomplish this goal. I have no idea how to set up this radio, and no one (physically)to help, and finance’s (or lack of). I learned a lot just by listening to him and I am going to do it!

Sorry for your loss -
Sounds like your fiance was very involved in ham radio. Was he associated with a local club? If so, reach out to the club for the assistance required. Best wishes, Mark

Thank you Mark. Yes he was super involved. But no clubs that I know of. I think because he worked a lot as a commercial electrician. His goal was to get as many countries logged as well as in the USA. He made friends everywhere.

Hey all, I am Brian, (no call sign yet!) I passed my technician, general, and amateur extra this past Tuesday night (7/19/22)! I am located in Northeast CT. A complete novice so I will be following the threads to gain knowledge. Thanks for having me and hosting the group.

Well I currently don’t have a license I used to have a Tech license, my call sign was KC7AXS, but it expired a long time ago. I lived In Idaho for a while, and that’s where the KC7 comes from. I do have 2 different ham radios, they are Baofeng UV9R, and a UV10R. I tend to be partial towards the 2 m band, because up in Idaho we had a couple of auto patch repeaters to make phone calls of course. But there was a couple other stations out there that the ham radio operators like to talk on quite a bit and we had fun doing it

Hello, everyone. My name is Jason Junkins and I am new to amateur radio. I have been wanting to get started for years now but am just now getting ready to study and take the test. I appreciate any recommendations on the best resource to understand the concepts and get going. This seems like a great site. Thanks!

Jason,
You are in the right place. The training videos and modules on this site are the best. Take your time, study, practice and you will be up and running in no time!
Best wishes,

Hello World…

I too wondered what happened to the American Radio Club, guessing the Red Cross took issue more than the ARRL. With the restructuring of thr ARRL and new fee structures, I am seriously looking for a new national organization. I know it will take many years, but it is needed. Thr ARRL has become too ā€œbusinessā€ for my taste.

This is NC1F, Matt, Wilmington, NC. Most of my logging is for POTA. I like the practice of running out somewhere, setting up an antenna and operating remotely. Typically running an FT-891 at 100 watts off a battery and through a coil/whip of some description. More information at NC1F - Callsign Lookup by QRZ Ham Radio . I will be very interested in seeing how this WRL develops over time. It sounds like a very interesting idea. Not much to add yet, just saying hello!

Welcome to WRL! You’ve very welcome here. Definitely lots of POTA fans here, including myself. We’re releasing new features regularly so we’ll try to keep you posted, and remember - we appreciate any and all feedback!

Check out the logbook feedback category if you have specific additions you want to the logbook

I am a native Texan. I’m currently Technician certified, beginning in 2023. I own are handheld Baofeng handheld. I was an avid 11-meter (Citizen band) user back in yesteryear. I learned about electrical components working on radios. I have much to learn about ham and how to operate the Baofeng.
